About us
The Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Sava in Issaquah, Washington, was founded in 1986 through the dedication and faith of a small group of Serbian Orthodox believers from the Seattle area. Their wish was simple yet profound – to have their own church, their own priest, and a spiritual home where they could worship the Lord together, teach children the Orthodox faith, and preserve Serbian culture and tradition.
With the blessing of Bishop Sava and the help of Father Nikola Soraić, the Saint Sava Parish in Seattle was officially established on December 16, 1986. The first liturgies were held in guest Orthodox churches and rented halls until the community achieved its great dream – to acquire its own church.
In 1991, through much effort, sacrifice, and love, the parishioners purchased a property in Issaquah, about twenty miles east of Seattle. After extensive work and voluntary efforts by the parishioners, the first liturgy in the new Saint Sava Church was celebrated on December 1, 1991. From that day on, the Church of Saint Sava became the spiritual center for Serbs in Washington State and beyond.
Over the years, the parish has grown and strengthened. With the support of the clergy and faithful community, the church was renovated, and a Sunday school, church choir, the “Drina” folklore group, and numerous charitable activities were established. Cultural and spiritual celebrations, such as Saint Sava Day, Serbian Days, and the church feast day, hold a special place in the life of our community, bringing together believers from across the Pacific Northwest.
The consecration of Saint Sava Church took place in July 1995, in the presence of Bishop Jovan, numerous priests, choirs, and guests from across the United States and Canada – a celebration that marked a new chapter in the life of our parish.
Today, Saint Sava Parish in Issaquah continues to be a place of prayer, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Through services, Sunday school, choir, folklore, sports, and charitable activities, we strive to preserve our faith and heritage and pass it on to new generations.
May the Lord bless us to continue building our community in love, peace, and Orthodox faith – to the glory of God and in honor of Saint Sava, the first Archbishop of the Serbian Church and spiritual father of our people.
